We had an interesting conversation with the actor Dado Ćosić, who is a member of the jury of Star Film Festival this year. We present  you a part of that interesting and enjoyable meeting.

Dado believes that, from the time he enrolled in the Academy, until now, Croatian cinema has made a huge turn. At the beginning of his studies, he thought that the film was exclusive, reserved for individuals, for “always the same team”. Nowadays the situation is significantly different. The Academy has yielded so many young and talented directors. He is glad that the young directors are give roles to young actors and that they are creating new energy. Croatian cinematography stopped being misogyny, so more and more women are involved in the film. A novelty in the world of film is openess to the European film currents. We are becoming more present at major European film festivals. He is proud how beautifully the Croatian cinema is developing. He thinks the film should always remain clean and not fall under the influence of political currents. Culturally, geographically, thematically – the closest for him is the European film. There are many directors who marked the Croatian film in their time. Some of them are Fedor Hanžeković, Nikola Tanhofer, Veljko Bulajić, Krsto Papić, Ante Babaja. And later, Rajko Grlić, Zrinko Ogresta, Hrvoje Hribar, Vinko Brežan, Lukas Nola, Ognjen Sviličić, Dalibor Matanić. Great films are recorded by  Hana Jušić, Jasna Nanut and Sonja Tarokić. He thinks that the best is yet to come.

For most movies, festivals are the beginning and the end of the show. The festivals are places for introducing films, authors, ideas, poetics, styles and therefore young people should visit them. It was used to happen that he watches a movie from someone he has never heard about, gets inspired and opens a whole new world. The question is whether I would ever watch that movie if I wasn’t at the festival. Dado says that he hasn’t been a part of jury at some festival until now. He thinks that this is a big responsibility and he probably would not have taken that responsability a year ago. He is ready to take over this responsibility for Star Film Fest and is extremely delighted to do so.  An advice that he sends to young artists is very interesting: “Allow yourself to be bored sometimes”.
