The second edition this year of watching films in Sisak’s hidden gardens, known as Star Gardens, will take place on Thursday, 14th of August, starting at 9:00 PM, at a completely new location we have never visited before – the small park behind the Health Centre at King Tomislav Street.
As a warm-up before Star Film Fest, which will be held from 21st to 23rd August in the city of Sisak, a total of six short films from last year’s SFF will be screened, followed by a performance by the young four-member band from Sisak called 20 kuna!
The live-action film “Šutim” by Sara Horvatić tells the story of Barbara, a photography student preparing for her first solo exhibition – invisible problems become increasingly visible, and her fear-driven reactions bring about change. The main character Dédé, from the animated film “Paumo D’amour” – winner of the Audience Award at the 11th SFF – devotes his love to his garden, until one day all of his delicious tomatoes mysteriously disappear. The award for Best Documentary Film at the 11th SFF went to “Sve uključeno” by Marko Plejić, which portrays a local bus station in a small village in Vojvodina, inhabited by Serbs and Romanians, as a fascinating microcosm of the contrasts between life and death.
The story of an overly curious Mary, who visits her boyfriend’s apartment for the first time only to find it stripped of all personal items, unfolds in the animated film “Curiosa” by Tessa Moult-Milewska, winner of the Best Student Film Award at the 11th SFF. After being denied an explanation, Mary sneaks into his mind. The experimental “Crocodile” by Dawid Bodzak, awarded Best Experimental Film at the 11th SFF, sheds its scales to bridge the gap between the smooth images of video games and the graininess of film. It abandons its watery shades of green to immerse itself in red, purple, and pink lights, flowing to the rhythm of dissonant music that underscores this haunting, ambiguously effective story. The live-action “Sincopat” by Pol Diggler brings a sci-fi tale featuring the creative director of a major company preparing to launch the latest technological revolution: a device that allows music to be heard directly in the brain.
The programme is free.
The event is supported by the City of Sisak and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
Star Gardens is a project of Kino Klub Sisak, which began as Starry Cinema in Fluid and in 2018 was renamed Star Gardens – known among Sisak’s residents as the tradition of enjoying cinematic art in the city’s hidden gardens under the starry sky.
