Star Film Fest 2025.
In addition to orbiting the stars every year, in 2025 we realized that Star Film Fest has been in constant motion for 12 years! We view movement as the core of cinematic art—every frame, every cut, and every emotion is conveyed through the movement of the camera, bodies, objects, and gazes. Film does not exist without some form of motion. Movement is change, growth, progress—just like our festival. Through the 12th edition of the festival, we celebrated all forms of movement, whether physical, emotional, or conceptual—those that drive both filmmakers and audiences.
When?
Star Film Fest, an international film festival, has been held in the city of Sisak for twelve years, and its twelfth edition took place at the Theatre venue from August 21 to 23, 2025.
Who?
The festival is organized by Kino Klub Sisak, which has been developing film and film culture in Sisak and the Sisak-Moslavina County for many years. The twelfth edition involved 23 organizers and 20 volunteers from across Croatia. The jury of the 12th SFF consisted of film critic Bartol Babić Vukmir, actress Petra Kurtela, illustrator and animator Ana Despot—also the winner of the Best Animated Film award at last year’s Star Film Fest—and director Lucija Brkić, recipient of the Mali Pečat Award for Best Short Film at ZagrebDox 2024.
What?
The competition program comprised a total of 32 short films selected by curators Martina Mladnović, Iva Rosandić, and Anja Kavić from 1,281 submissions worldwide. The official competition program screened a total of 10 animated films, 8 documentary films, 8 experimental films, and 6 fiction short films, of which 24 were student films. The competition program also featured 6 Croatian premieres: the animated film “Stardust and Camp” by Australian director Jayden Van Win, and the experimental films “Sister” by Filandre Zulfikar from neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Doctor Comes in on Thursdays” by Serbian director Jovana Anđelković, “Layers: Film” by Brazilian director Vitoria Scaevola, the Tajik film “Voices of the Mountains” created by the DRF Community, and the Argentine film “Terpeniev” by Manuel Del Médice. All films in the competition program could also be viewed through VR headsets during the festival.
In addition to film screenings, the festival featured the opening of the exhibition “The Inner Face” by Ivana Svjetličić, musical performances, and a tribute to actor Duško Valentić alongside the premiere of the film “Samoća” (“Solitude”). As part of the children’s program, a screening of the animated film “Poplava” (“Flood”) was held, as well as— in collaboration with the platform Film svima—an inclusive children’s screening of “Ježeva kuća” (“Hedgehog’s Home”) and a screening of the documentary film “Fiume o morte!”, adapted for people who are hard of hearing and visually impaired. The discursive program included a masterclass by actor Goran Grgić, a panel discussion “Movement in Film”, a gathering of young authors titled “Small Film Conversations”, and the traditional film quiz organized in cooperation with Kvizopija.
