37 Films from 16 Countries Coming to Sisak from August 20–22

Star Film Fest has announced the official competition selection for the 13th edition of its international short film festival, which will take place from August 20th to 22nd in Sisak, Croatia.

This year’s selection features 37 short films from 16 countries, reaffirming the festival’s international character and its long-standing commitment to bringing together young filmmakers from around the world. Audiences can look forward to a diverse programme of fiction, documentary, animated, and experimental films exploring personal stories, social challenges, identity, coming of age, human relationships, and contemporary phenomena that shape everyday life.

Competing for the festival awards are films from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Poland, Italy, Finland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Hungary, France, North Macedonia, Turkey, Brazil, the United States, Canada, Spain, and Hong Kong.

Among the Croatian entries are the documentary films “Joso” by director Monika Herceg, “Od jutra do sutra” by Marina Musulin, and “Kupam se, voli vas tata” by Izidor Bistović. The animation programme features works by emerging filmmakers such as Branko Perković, Lara Paun, and Antonija Klarić and Luna Strmotić. The fiction competition also includes Croatian titles “Krsnik” by Dan Paulette, “All Inclusive” by Mihael Furlan, and the Sisak-produced film “Echo” by Fran Domitrović.

The competition programme also includes a number of internationally acclaimed films that have been screened at festivals across Europe and around the world throughout the year, further establishing Star Film Fest as an important meeting point for emerging voices and contemporary film trends.

Particularly noteworthy is the strong presence of student productions in this year’s selection. As many as 16 selected films were produced within film and art academies in Croatia and abroad, confirming Star Film Fest as one of the key platforms for showcasing new generations of filmmakers.

In addition to the competition screenings, visitors can look forward to filmmaker Q&As, educational events, a music programme, and numerous festival gatherings that will once again transform Sisak into a hub of young cinema for three days.
