‘Deserters‘, a documentary film by director and actor Damir Markovina, will be screened on Friday, September 1st, starting at 9:30 p.m., as part of the tenth edition of the Star Film Fest at the Vladimir Nazor Promenade.
Premiered at the Czech documentary film festival Ji.hlava, where it won the award for the best documentary film in Central and Eastern Europe and the award for the best sound design, ‘Deserters‘ is a film about the school generation of Bosnian youth from the city of Mostar, affected by the devastating war on the threshold of adulthood. Their experiences of the horrors of war and exile stories from the 90s, contained in the letters sent to the director of this film from refugee camps scattered throughout Europe, are confronted with the present state of the city they were forced to leave.

A film about a missing generation, exile, difficult choices and the answer to the most difficult question of every war: to stay or run away? The film was also awarded at the Trieste Film Festival and at this year’s ZagrebDox, where it won a special award – Movies That Matter.
