The second competition screening, to be held on Friday, August 22nd at 5 PM at Theatre 21, presents five short films, each addressing relationships and togetherness in its own unique way.
The imagery of the documentary–experimental film “More tišine” by Sara Gurdulić is based on forgotten family (and archival) materials. In July 1969, the Apollo 11 space mission landed at the Mare Tranquillitatis site, and the film poses the question—who, apart from the Moon’s explorers, has the right to silence? The film was created within the framework of the School of Documentary Film.
The experimental “Doctor Comes in on Thursdays” by Jovana Anđelković will have its Croatian premiere at Star Film Fest, offering a brief portrait of anger, despair, and nostalgia, painted with vague, faceless silhouettes of passers-by, set against the personal sobbing of those who have stayed behind.
The fiction film “Greek Apricots” by Jan Krevatin, produced at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, tells a short story about Mak, a young man working the night shift at a gas station, who meets Nada, a truck driver. Bound by their shared Macedonian heritage, they find comfort in each other as they try to escape their individual loneliness.
The animated film “A Letter to a Friend” by Ana Prebil, through a letter sent from afar, carries a touch of love and loneliness in the wind and scent of summer, reuniting friends once again. The film was created within the LUCA School of Arts.
The documentary aesthetic essay “Repetitions” by Maciej Czuchryt, produced at the Polish Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, focuses on intimate interviews with the residents of a sanatorium. Repetitive exercises serve as catalysts for personal stories of pain and pleasure, revealing the most vivid moments of human life.
