This year, a total of 13 animated films await you as part of the competitive screenings, and we present the first six! The first block of competitive screenings (August 31st, 2023 at 8:30 p.m.), which also opens this year’s SFF, contains 5 animated films that will be shown at Nazor’s promenade.
The American comedy “Franklin” (dir. Maddy Stevens), through the main character of a pig named Franklin, shows the loss of social and life values through excessive consumption of social networks, while the domestic “Amorella” (dir. Ivana Šerić), which is actually a music video, and at the same time and a combination of digital animation and hand embroidery, thematizes human relationships and the kind of love between those closest to us.
The Portuguese “Foxtale” (dir. Alexandra Allen) brings a simple story about the fight of one fox for the last berry on the top of the tree, and “Kućica za ptice” (dir. Petra Pavetić Kranjčec) brings animals as the main actors, which with its action symbolizes romanticization and idealization relationships, different expectations, fraud, break-up, but also personal growth as a result of lived experience.
The domestic “Love is a colour” (dir. Nikolina Žabčić) also thematizes love relationships, but in the context of a cold, colorless virtual world that has replaced reality and a way to return, with love, to that same reality.
The second block of competitive screenings (September 1st, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.) in the Sisak City Museum will show the Brazilian animated film “Cadim” (dir. Luiza Pugliesi Villaça), which focuses on the relationship and love between the main protagonist and his bird Chico.
