Tonight, August 21st, the 12th edition of the Star Film Fest begins, bringing together filmmakers and film enthusiasts in the city of Sisak over the course of three days. This year’s edition is dedicated to motion—as the foundation of cinematic art, but also as a metaphor for constant change and progress through which the festival has evolved since its beginnings. Every frame, every cut, and every glance carries the energy of movement, and it is precisely this that Star Film Fest highlights with special significance this year.

The festival selectors — Iva Rosandić, Martina Mladenović and Anja Kavić — have chosen 32 short films from as many as 1,281 submissions from around the world. The audience can also look forward to six Croatian premieres, including: the animated film “Stardust and camp” by Australian director Jayden Van Win, the experimental films “Sister” (Bosnia and Herzegovina), “Doctor Comes in on Thursdays” (Serbia), “Layers: Film” (Brazil), “Voices of the Mountains” (Tajikistan), as well as the Argentine film “Terpeniev” by Manuel Del Médice.

On Thursday, August 21zt, at Vladimir Nazor’s Promenade, the festival will open with the exhibition “The Inner Face” by Sisak artist Ivana Svjetličić, accompanied by film music performed by Duo Sanjam & the Petrinja Wind Quartet. This will be followed by a tribute to the late Croatian theater, television, and film actor Duško Valentić, featuring the premiere screening of the short fiction film “Lonely” directed by Bobby Boško Grubić and written by Miro Gavran, marking Valentić’s final performance. The official opening of the festival will then take place, along with the first competition screening and a music program highlighted by a violin techno live looping performance by SVEBOR.

In case of rain, the program will be moved to Theater 21. For final information, follow us on social media.
