This year, as part of the competition program, 11 animated shorts await us!
The first block of competitive screenings (August 29th at 8:50 p.m.), which also opens this year’s SFF, contains 2 animated films that will be shown on Nazor’s Promenade, namely “Šuma Striborova” by local author Ana Despot and “Chosen’t” by Yotam Goren. “Šuma Striborova” brings a story from a peaceful but mysterious forest where mother and son live in harmony, until an unusual snake sneaks up on them and disturbs their peace. The snake turns into a beautiful girl and seduces the dim-witted son. “Chosen’t” comes from a fantastic world where all good stories begin. The young girl is declared “Chosen One” by the angels because she is destined to face challenges and monsters. At first proud, her joy turns to obsession after she experiences failure.
In the second block of competitive screenings (August 29th at 10:00 p.m.), the animated film “Journey of Cooking” by New Zealand author Qingyi (Echo) Sun will be shown. The film opens with excitement at the prospect of fresh, delicious food from robots moving from a dystopian city to a vibrant forest. However, their excitement is dampened when they discover that all the food they bought with the remaining money has gone moldy. This leads to a culinary discovery.
The animated films “Paumo D’amour” and “Vestige” will be shown during the third block of competitive screenings (August 30th at 8:15 p.m.). “Paumo D’amour” is a film by a French group of authors consisting of Ian Halley, Nathan Hermouet, Luka Croisez, Laurene Vaubourdolle and Jade Van De Veire, and tells the story of a character called Dede who, instead of giving his wife the attention she deserves, only cares about with their tomatoes that mysteriously disappear one day. “Vestige” is the work of the Taiwanese author Yu-Hsuan Teng, who through intricate and atmospheric illustrations shows the artist’s journey in search of her long-lost childhood friend. As she walks through the war-torn and forgotten hometown of her past, the contrasting lives of these two women unfold, revealing their grief and loss in a bittersweet light.
The summer theme is brought by “(Un)lucky day” by the Slovenian author Karina Likar, who introduces us to Srečko, who comes to the beach and cannot find a free seat. The film will be shown as part of the fourth competition screening (August 30th at 9:20 p.m.).
As part of the fifth and last competition screening (August 30th at 10:25 p.m.), the Serbian “Pismo koje nikad nećeš dobiti” by the author duo Danilo Lazović and Jana Marinović and “Draganov s(c)vet” by Marko Vasić, the American “Sea Angel” by Tyler Dennis, the British “Curious” by Tessa Moult-Milewska and the French “L’Animal Sauce Ail” by a group of authors consisting of Ysaline Debut, Isa Cotte, Aurelien Duches, Camille Rostan, Clement Mouchel and Diana Mazella.
“Pismo koje nikad nećeš dobiti“ is a literary task of a young girl found in the trash, which was turned into an animated film using other things that people would throw in the trash, while “Draganov s(c)vet” follows the protagonist who goes to the meadow every morning where he ritually waters the flower for years. However, one day he finds the evil gnome Wicky taking a flower and taking it in an unknown direction. The tense action of a man hunting for a sea monster that supposedly kidnapped his friend is brought by “Sea Angel”, and the film “Curiousa” introduces us to the excessively curious Mary who visits her boyfriend’s apartment for the first time.
