After this year’s first edition of Star Gardens was canceled due to the forecast that was not in our favor, the tradition and prelude to this year’s Star Film Fest continues.

The second or “first” film screening in the hidden gardens of Sisak will take place on Friday, August 26, 2022 in the yard of the Margić family at Street of king Tomislav 9, and we have adapted the film program so that you will be fully prepared for the upcoming edition of the Star Film Fest.

At this edition of Star Gardens, nine films awarded at last year’s Star Film Fest will be screened: The Blue Border, Black Box, The Invasion, Sve kako driba, S13p15a, Recognize, (Un)known neighbours, The Moon, Tomasico And My Grandmother and Perenne.

The awards for the best documentary film, the best regional film and the best photography were won last year by Ivan Milosavljević‘s film The Blue Border, which depicts a man from the border who spent his whole life looking for the biggest fish hidden by the blue Danube. Years ago, every day, at the crack of dawn, an old fisherman tries to lure fish. This is the story of two peers – one on the surface of the water, the other hidden in the depths of the mighty river, waiting to finally meet.

The award for the best feature film was won by the Turkish film Black Box directed by Can Deniz Atic, which portrays the eleven-year-old Selin, a young violinist who is preparing for her final exams while trying to survive the chaotic atmosphere of Istanbul alone. The Uzbek film directed by Dante Rustav The Invasion was awarded last year for the best experimental film in the competition program, and the film itself claims that every society has its own rhythm of life that determines the time respecting order and tradition, but even the smallest intervention in this routine rhythm can change society.

On the screen of Star Gardens, the feature film Everything as it is by Nikola Stojanović, which won the Stardust Award at the eighth SFF, will shine. The film follows a single mother who wants to spend her birthday with her daughter Sara, but her plans are ruined when Sara invites her father to her birthday party. The animated film S13p15a by the Spanish author Jesus Loinego says that even the most unexpected dangers are marked by signposts, and the signposts will show you that S13p15a was awarded the best animated film at the eighth SFF.

The Spanish feature film Recognize by Isaac Fluxe Moreno won the award for best editing last year, and in its 16 minutes it tells a story based on a couple who were accidentally run over on a mountain road, and the Spanish documentary film (Un)known neighbors directed by Isaac Roudrigez, which brings the author’s experience of moving to Barcelona, will also be shown. Over time, he got to know his new neighbors and calculated that hundreds of people could live in his neighborhood. The film depicts different lives of different ideals, routines and ways of behaving that coexist wall to wall and meet day by day, and at the same time won the Audience Award at the eighth Star Film Fest.

And we end the screening with Spanish films that won awards from our selectors last year – The Moon, Tomasico And My Grandmother and Perenne.

The feature film The Moon, Tomasico And My Grandmother by Angelo Caparros tells the story of a grandson who is ready to do anything to fulfill his grandmother’s last wish, and the Perenne stop-motion film by Ruben Seca, which was created within 24 hours, tells the story of the Rose of Jericho that never dies. she did not see it in bloom and talks to her friend Kaktus about the injustice of the lack of decision-making power.

We hereby invite you to join us and eagerly await the ninth edition of Star Film Fest!
